A-1519 II Calibration Report Error Interpretation

Interpreting A-1519/1520 Type II Calibration Reports

The accuracy of the A-1519-900 (A-1519-2.4) Type II target is specified in the report below as an error of 3.8 µm (microns). This means that the maximum error of a given measurement could be +/- 3.8 µm over the central 80% of the measuring area of the target. This mean, for example, if one measurement point was at -12.7 mm (-.500”) and the next measurement point was + 12.7 mm (+.500), then the maximum error in the 25-mm measurement deviation would be no more than 7.6 µm (.00031”) or 0.001%.

When measuring small deviations in flatness/straightness (less than 1 mm) near the zero (electronic) point of the sensor, the maximum error is much lower, usually about 1 micron or better. See the explanation of the graph below for more details.
